Venus of Arles
Bronze lost-wax reproduction of one of the Venuses of Arles. 3rd century AD. Arles Museum (France).
This is a small naked figurine representing the goddess of love and beauty, Venus (Aphrodite in Greek mythology). It appears that the eyes were decorated with inserts, which have disappeared over time. The right forearm is incomplete. Dark oxidation patina. It was discovered during the excavations of the glass workshop in Trinquetaille (Arles) in 1983.
